Small Festivals Meet Handmade Soap

I love soap. Not just the Dove soap, but the homemade kind. The one that incorporates different

smells, products, and quality ingredients. The best are those that are sold in little markets or at town festivals. I may feel like I'm taking crazy pills, but upon going home over the fall break, there was an autumn day. Vendors from all around the area came to sell their goods and one of the vendors caught my eye. They were called SQ for Body’s Sake and sold various different kinds of body fragrances and soaps. I bought two soap bars that I still haven’t used for fear that they will go away and no longer be plausible to use. Silly and dumb, I know; but, the fear of having to replace them seems oddly prevalent. I enjoy items like them and am intrigued on how they are made. There seems to be a weird, crafty feeling that comes along with such a purchase. There’s a hunt in searching through flea markets and festivals for the right purchase. This happened to me mine of choice.

Small Festivals and Markets

Part of the beauty with these festivals and small markets is that companies like the one I purchased my goods from are able to test try them on consumers like me. They are able to see which people sells the most and which is the most important to the customers. The positive feedback will allow them to feel confident about the products’ quality and marketability. After they are able to get their items into festivals and flea markets, this is where the real magic begins. Success in these different locations really depends on the entrepreneur and how they approach the crucial factors of success. This small, crafty idea of making soap tends to rank on the best small business home ideas and requires very little investment. Consumers, like myself, are interested in the quality of the ingredients and how incorporating different oils in these products will better help us take care of our skin. I am worried about what goes into my products and whether it will cause my skin to be irritated. If this costs more money, I am okay with it. I am looking for quality and the sheer feeling of “handmade” above all else. The shift from large corporations to smaller, newer corporations is happening swiftly in this country and a little portion of it belongs to the soap industry.

There are a few things that are key when making this business successful. The product needs to hold a niche. The ones I bought had attractive colors and drew my eye immediately. The attractiveness of the shapes and colors helped to make the display pop. I was able to identify with the product and mission that the company was trying to sell me. Perception is reality and they were able to market their product effectively. The raw materials they used possessed no chemicals. They had fresh ingredients. Fresh smells. All of my senses were on overdrive. The product was sold and I’m also a returning customer, well at least once I start to use the soap!
